The Beer and Burrito 5K and Other Great Races on the Grand Strand

Is it any coincidence many of the coolest races in the region happen in your favorite vacation spot?

Myrtle Beach hosts many races, from fun runs to half marathons. On Aug. 16, head to the coast for Beer and Burrito 5K. Register now for the fun, which will start at 5 p.m. at Tidal Creek Brewhouse.

Wear festive clothes. You’ll get a tri-blend participant shirt for running. Check out the race website for details.

Tips for Running a 5K

Here’s some advice to make the courtship between the runner and race an even better experience.

Set a baseline

You need a goal, and an understanding of where you’re coming from. Beginners need a run-walk strategy, such as the one in the Couch to 5K program. It helps build an aerobic base.

Warm up

The shorter the run, the longer warmup you should have. All it takes is an easy jog, dynamic stretching, and a few short sprints to get your muscles going.

You don’t need lots of carbs

… unless it’s a half or full marathon. Those runners will eat lots of carbs before the race, but for a 5K, it’s not necessary.
