John Hancock and Charles Thompson signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4. The other 56 delegates added their signatures on Aug. 2.

That’s a lot of shows

The American Pyrotechnics Association says there are 16,000 July 4 fireworks displays. The COVID-19 pandemic forced many cancellations in 2020, but lots have since returned.

A 16-year-old designed the current flag

It was part of a history class project in 1958, with pending statehoods for Alaska and Hawaii. His grade? A B-minus. That rose to an A after President Dwight D. Eisenhower chose his design to become the official flag.

4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza at Broadway at the Beach

Pick a spot for dinner at one of several fun restaurants here, such as:

  • Hard Rock Cafe
  • Joe’s Crab Shack

Then, stick around for the fireworks show over Lake Broadway, beginning at 10 p.m. It’s one of the area’s best shows. This site is ever hopping, but for Independence Day, they turn it up a notch.

Cherry Grove Pier 4th of July Fireworks

The presentation will begin at about 9:30 p.m. Bring a chair and blanket to catch fireworks right off the beach at Cherry Grove Pier.

Indulge in food made famous by this group of waterside eateries. Enjoy MarshWalk Fourth of July Fireworks, drink specials, and entertainment. They know how to party! The MarshWalk will be open for the holiday.

Murrells Inlet Boat Parade

Boats from all over the region strut their stuff, decorated in patriotic themes. The Murrells Inlet Boat Parade sets off from Garden City Point. It crosses through the inlet to Morse Park Landing. Head out before 9 p.m. for a suitable vantage point. Tourists and residents flock to the marsh for this occasion.
