Ultimate California Pizza in Myrtle Beach Serves Pie Fans Don’t Pan

Nothing can keep us from it because pizza conforms to what we like and who we are.

We consumed 252 million pounds of pizza in 2012, according to Indeed, our love runs deep for this dish.

In Myrtle Beach, there are numerous pizzerias but a favorite among locals and tourists is Ultimate California Pizza.

“The best pizza ever,” said Rebecca Calkins on Ultimate California Pizza’s Facebook page. “No one can compare to your pizza. My favorite and only pizza I call the best.”

Calkins is not alone in her enthusiasm. Folks are really feeling this small pizza chain, which is locally owned by the Divine Dining Group and has six Grand Strand locations, including two in Myrtle Beach.

“Living local you try not to get down into the “busy” part of town,” said Richard R. Stogner via Facebook. “But I have lived all over the country and today I had the best pizza ever. Where you ask? Ultimate California Pizza. Everyone else can pack up and move out of town.”

The location at 2500 N. Kings Highway is only half a mile from The Breakers Resort. So, after taking a dip in the pool or waking up from a refreshing nap in their oceanfront condos or suites, resort guests can make the one-minute drive to this award-winning Myrtle Beach pizza place, where they can chill out again and enjoy hearty servings of good eats with family and friends.

“We have handmade dough, our custom sauce and more than 80 ingredients you can get on your pizza in any combination,” said Dennis Onken, project coordinator at Ultimate California Game Zone at the Galleria, which is the pizza chain’s stellar version of Chuck E. Cheese’s but with far superior pizza and without the singing mechanical animals that frighten some children and adults.

There are 13 specialty pizzas on the menu, including the Big Kahuna that has pepperoni, smoked ham, ground beef, Italian sausage, sautéed mushrooms, green peppers, onions, black olives, Roma tomatoes, mozzarella, parmesan and gouda. There are even more cheeses available to top any menu pizza or the one you dream up on your own, including Swiss, provolone, cheddar, Monterey jack, goat, low-fat mozzarella and feta.

Ultimate California offers an 8-inch pie, a 12-inch medium pie and a 14-inch large pie. With the exception of the Big Kahuna, which doesn’t come in a personal size, prices are $6.99 to $18.99.

“This was the best pizza I have ever had in my whole life…seriously,” said Christina Sorenson Henries on Facebook.

Although pizza clearly reigns at Ultimate California Pizza, there is much more here.

“We have a full selection of made-to-order specialty sandwiches and 8-inch subs with a variety of options like pesto-infused chicken, fresh spinach, artichokes, meatballs and Monterey chicken,” Onken said.

Ultimate California Pizza also serves Caesar, chef and other salads. Signature sandwiches and wraps start at $6.99, while salads start at $2.99.

Of course, chicken wings, one of our best food friends, are also available, with basic and adventurous sauces available like High Thai’D (sweet Thai chile) and Chinatown (ginger teriyaki). Each order of 10 jumbo wings is $8.49.

Yet, there is one thing on the menu that might surprise folks visiting Ultimate California Pizza – hummus dip, which comes with flatbread, celery, broccoli and mild cherry peppers. This appetizer costs $6.99.

“We have a wide selection of options for vegetarians,” Onken said. “We have four specialty vegetarian pizzas, and lots of vegetable toppings (more than 20). “We also have a rosemary, whole wheat pizza crust that we make from scratch.”

The pizza crust is sweet and doughy with just the right crunch factor.

Ultimate California Pizza also offers a kid’s menu for $5.49 for ages 12 and under. The price includes a beverage, with peanut butter and jelly pizza, and ziti among the choices.

In short, guests of The Breakers Resort will discover there is food at Ultimate California pizza for every appetite and diet.
