Best of 2013: Our Favorite New Myrtle Beach Restaurants

With thousands of Grand Strand restaurants serving up millions of meals to locals and visitors every year, the Myrtle Beach restaurant scene is dynamic to say the least. And while many visitors like going to the same standbys year after year, adventurous eaters always want to know what’s new. And while 2013 so far has seen the closure of some restaurants, many new restaurants opened their doors, and some that opened last year started to get their footing. Here are a few of our favorite new restaurants in Myrtle Beach:

Banditos Restaurant & Cantina

This oceanfront bar and Mexican food establishment opened at the end of last summer, and has increasingly become one of our favorite oceanfront eateries where you can also catch live music on the back patio every night in the summer and weekends in the off season. It probably won’t stay a secret for long, as construction is underway to build an extension of the Oceanfront Boardwalk to take visitors right to Banditos’ back door.

We know it’s just fast food, but there’s something kind of addictive about it. The new Myrtle Beach-area Cookout is actually located in Conway on Hwy. 501, and in the months since it opened the restaurant has kept it heavily staffed, even relying on staff to help direct traffic in the parking lot. Once you taste one of their peach cobbler or banana pudding milkshakes, you’ll see why.

If you’re headed south to Pawley’s Island, you simply must try BisQuit, the new restaurant in the Hammock Shops that was recently opened by the owners of Quigley’s Pint & Plate, also in Pawleys. You’ll find huge fluffy biscuits stuffed with everything from fried chicken to jalapeno bacon and country ham. And the burgers are unforgettable.

Simply Southern Smokehouse BBQ and Country Buffet

The food is one draw, but even better is the entertainment of one of the employees: Isaac Collington likes to sing gospel while bussing tables. Locals have been enjoying his tunes for years, as he worked at The Filling Station, but after it closed, he had to find work elsewhere. He’s now back in The Filling Station’s former location. The restaurant is located at 1913 Mr. Joe White Ave. Phone: 843-839-1913
