Palmetto High School Golf Championship Accepting Entries

11/21/2006

November 21, 2006, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Team entries are now being accepted for the 10th annual Spring Palmetto High School Golf Championships, to be held April 5–7, 2007, with teams from 20 states expected to compete in the 54-hole tournament at Black Bear Golf Club, Blackmoor Golf Club, Indigo Creek Golf Club, International Club, Meadowlands Golf Club, River Hills Golf Club, True Blue Plantation, Tradition Golf Club, Wachesaw Plantation and Crown Park Golf Club

Open to all high school teams, the Palmetto High School Golf Championships consist of two seasonal tournaments, a 54-hole event in the spring and a 36-hole tournament in the fall, and provides prep teams with a college-style event to help tune-up prior to conference, sectional and state tournaments. Hosted by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, the Palmetto’s qualifying method ensures teams of all skill levels enjoy a competitive experience. Medals are awarded to top finishing teams and individuals in each flight and the Palmetto also features a two-person coaches’ tournament.

The Palmetto High School Golf Championships will once again team up with the National High School Golf Coaches Association (NHSGCA) for the annual spring championship, and the third annual fall championship, to be held September 14 – 15, 2007. The NHSGCA is the only national association for high school golf coaches and through the partnership, the Palmetto High School Golf Championships reaches high school golf coaches across the country seeking tournaments for their teams. The NHSGCA also sponsors the Palmetto All-Tournament Team.

“The Palmetto High School Golf Championships have emerged as one of the most competitive high school team tournaments in the nation,” said Dave Macpherson, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday tournament coordinator. “The tournament hosted more than 120 teams from 20 states in 2006 and with the assistance of the National High School Golf Coaches Association, we expect one of the deepest fields in tournament history.” The cost for the three-day tournament is $920 per five-person team and registration ends March 23, 2007. Teams that register by February 19 will have the $50 application fee waived.
