If baseball is America's pastime, then football is America's full-time. Millions of fans flock to the stadiums and tailgate parties to catch all the hard-hitting action and root for the home team, but that can be tough to do when you are away on vacation. But not in Myrtle Beach, where there are plenty of great sports bars, many of them close to Breakers Resort, to let you take a timeout from your vacation to watch the big game. Whether you prefer college football or the NFL, you can see them all at these five sports hot spots on the Grand Strand:

* Rusty Reel Bar & Grill: Breakers guests are literally steps away from a great sports bar experience with an ocean view. The Rusty Reel was recently renovated to give guests an on-site oceanfront retreat that is part restaurant and part sports bar. Large screen TVs are located above the bar, where patrons can watch multiple games and while enjoying tasty food and frozen drinks. A full food menu includes excellent appetizers, and the bar serves beer, wine and mixed drinks. No need for driving, just lots of high-fiving with fellow fans and guests.

* Broadway Louie's: If you want to get the big-game experience, head to the biggest sports bar in town. Located in the Celebrity Square district of Broadway at the Beach, this two-story sports bar offers a viewing room with lots of TVs and tables, as well as a large arcade and game room if you feel like working off the competitive juices during halftime. Drink specials include $1.50 Bud Light drafts all the time, and the menu features lots of good bar food, such as chicken wings, burgers and more. If the crowds are a bit too big and rowdy for your tastes, check out Chuck & Ducks just around the corner for a more mellow environment.

* Bumstead's Pub: Adjoining the popular Dagwood's Deli in the downtown district, this English-style pub packs them in on game days. The coveted booths feature their own private TVs so you and your fellow fans can watch the game of your choice, and there are big screen TVs scattered throughout the bar. A separate room offers pool tables and dart boards for some friendly competition, and the food and drink menus offer a wide selection of craft beers as well as the piled-high sandwiches from the deli.

* Overtime Sports Café: If you find yourself on the North Strand on the weekend, be sure to check out the Taj Mahal of local sports bars at Overtime Sports Café. Featuring two floors of wall-to-wall TVs, and arcade, and a sports memorabilia museum, “the OT,” as it is known to local sports fans, offers great food and drinks. The menu ranges from wings and apps to surf and turf, and beer specials are held for happy hour and special events. This sports bar is home to various college and NFL team clubs where fans gather to root for their team together.

* Pine Lakes Tavern: If you are accustomed to going to a friendly neighborhood bar back home, you may look for the same while you are in Myrtle Beach. Located beside the historic Pine Lakes International Country Club, the Granddaddy of Myrtle Beach golf courses, also boasts one of the most popular local bars, the gastropub. This pub offers great food and drink, an outdoor patio deck and a game room, and occasional live music, but sports takes center stage, especially during football season. Watch the game indoors or outdoors on the deck overlooking Pine Lake.

No matter where you watch the game and whether your team wins or loses, you will always feel like a champ when you stay and play at The Breakers Resort in Myrtle Beach.
