Myrtle Beach takes great pride in supporting youth athletics and plays host to traveling baseball and softball teams from all over the U.S. Since 2006, The Ripken Experience was built as the optimal venue for traveling ball teams, hosting tournaments, high school and college spring training and summer camps. With beautiful weather and miles of magnificent beaches, Myrtle Beach is the ideal destination for coaches, players and families to enjoy games both on and off the field.
Eight years ago, Major League Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. partnered with Burroughs & Chapin Co., Inc. to build the 50-acre venue including regulation-sized and youth diamonds as well as batting cages, bullpen mounds, a merchandise shop and much more. The fields were modeled after historic ballparks including Ebbets Field, Griffith Field and The Polo Grounds, all of which hosted professional baseball teams from New York and Washington D.C. Now, to kick of the New Year, the foundation will expand by constructing an additional 90-foot diamond professional field.
The new field will mimic the design of Crosley Field, which hosted the Cincinnati Reds from the early 1900s to the 1970s. Construction began in early December 2013 and will be ready to kick off the spring training season in mid-February. This new addition will elevate the playing field even more, continuing the tradition of high-quality programs and competitions and never straying away from the Cal Ripken Experience mission – Inspire athletes through remarkable experiences – The Ripken Way.
