Everyone knows about all the hot fun in the summertime in Myrtle Beach, and an increasing number of visitors are discovering that the good times don't stop just because the calendar and thermometer say that winter has arrived. In fact, the cooler temperatures and smaller crowds are exactly what some snowbirds are looking for in a winter retreat.

And what better place to stay and play than at the Breakers Resort in Myrtle Beach's downtown oceanfront district? In addition to the modern and comfortable accommodations and on-site amenities that include indoor aquatic facilities, restaurants and fitness and business centers, Breakers is also in the heart of all the action in the winter months. Here's a list of some of the offseason activities within walking distance or a short drive of the Breakers Resort:

Arts & Crafts Festivals: The Grand Strand gets all artsy and craftsy in the offseason with a series of festivals that highlight some of the top vendors on the East Coast. Shows like Art in the Park, The Dickens Christmas Show, the Springmaid Beach Arts & Crafts Show are among several events that combine great shopping opportunities with fun activities and food. Visitors can shop for those hard-to-find items for Christmas gifts or beach souvenirs.

Broadway at the Beach: Located about one mile west down 21st Avenue North, this multi-purpose entertainment complex offers excellent shopping, dining, nightlife and attractions, such as the popular Ripley's Aquarium, Hollywood Wax Museum and WonderWorks venues. On warmer days, outdoor activities like the Pavilion Nostalgia amusement parks, Broadway Grand Prix and Soar & Explore zipline and ropes obstacle course are fun options, and special holiday events such as a tree lighting ceremony are also on tap. Be sure to check your Sun & Fun Rewards bonus package for free tickets to many of these attractions.

Holiday on the Boardwalk: The northernmost starting point of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, a 1.3-mile wooden walkway that spans the downtown district, begins only a few blocks from the Breakers, and the popular pathway leads to lots of offseason fun. For example, the “Holidays on the Boardwalk” festival features concerts and caroling, Polar Express train trips and camels rides, and visits from the jolly ol' elf himself to pose for pictures with visitors. Even after the holidays you can find great shopping, dining and attractions, like the Gay Dolphin Gift Cove, Art Burger Sushi Bar and the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel.

Hoops-a-palooza: If you like basketball, you will love the month of December in Myrtle Beach. Three major hoops events are held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, which is only three blocks inland from the Breakers Resort. The CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational tips things off Dec. 17-21 with some of the top high school girls teams and players in the nation, followed by the Carolinas Challenge women's college basketball classic. The highlight of the hoops extravaganza is the Dec. 28-31 Beach Ball Classic, as the top boys high school teams from all over the country compete in the 35th annual event.

Theaters: The Grand Strand theaters don’t let a little thing like winter keep them from opening their doors and putting on great shows. Holiday shows take over the stage at the Alabama Theatre, The Carolina Opry and the Palace Theatre in November and December, and the new shows for 2016 debut in January and February. Dinner theaters such as Medieval Times and Pirates Voyage and tribute shows at Legends In Concert also run year-round.

Those are just a few fun things going on in Myrtle Beach during the offseason, so book your reservations today and experience all the wintertime fun at the Breakers Myrtle Beach Resort.
