While warm(ish) temperatures and white-sand beaches may not be the first things to spring to mind when most of us envision the holidays, both are plentiful on the Grand Strand – and they’re both waiting here for anyone looking to escape the snow and ice back home. The Myrtle Beach area provides an easily accessible escape from the winter weather without having to miss out on the holiday cheer. Visitors can leave the heavy winter wardrobe and snow shovel behind – just pack a few light sweaters (and perhaps even shorts and sandals), and make the Myrtle Beach oceanfront and The Breakers Resort your holiday home.

Located right on the Atlantic Ocean in the heart of Myrtle Beach, The Breakers Resort can make your family’s holiday vacation a memorable one with a wide range of accommodations and a wealth of amenities. And during your visit, you can use your smartphone to join in our special Holiday Hunt. Explore some of the fun seasonal festivities on the Grand Strand, capture some special moments with your phone’s camera, and share them with us on Instagram. In all your photos, be sure use the hashtag #BreakersHolidayHunt.

Pic 1 – Holiday Beach Message: To kick off your Holiday Hunt, hit the beach behind The Breakers Resort and write a giant holiday message in the sand- maybe something like “Season’s Greetings from the Johnson family!” Get creative, and make sure your message is large enough for Santa to see it from high in the sky as he flies over Myrtle Beach in his sleigh. Once your merry masterpiece is captured on camera, post a photo of it on the ’Gram with the appropriate tag and hashtag!

Pic 2 – Photo With Santa: Your second Holiday Hunt mission – a photo with Santa Claus. Before traveling around the globe on his Christmas Eve trek, he’ll be enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the Myrtle Beach area. During your stay at The Breakers Resort, you’ll have some photo ops within easy reach. Father Christmas himself will be making several appearances at Santa’s Village at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex through the end of December.

Pic 3 – Holiday Lights: As the Christmas season arrives, the Grand Strand is transformed into a (warmer than the norm) winter wonderland with lots of festive decorations. Check out one of the Myrtle Beach area’s holiday displays or winter festivals, and take a photo with your favorite holiday light display. An excellent option for checking this one off your list can be found at Brookgreen Gardens’ Nights of a Thousand Candles, where more than 5,000 hand-lit candles and countless strands of twinkling lights illuminate the grounds of the sculpture gardens. This area tradition runs through December 17th and is a must-see on your vacation itinerary. You could also drive through the Great Christmas Light Show in North Myrtle Beach. This cheerful holiday experience features over 500 magical light displays (some up to 55 feet tall) and a section of lights synchronized with holiday music. You can visit through December 31st.

Pic 4 – Holiday Ornament: While you’re enjoying all the Christmas lights, you probably won’t need to look too hard to find a magnificent Christmas tree nearby. Pick an ornament on the tree that’s especially eye-catching, and take a photo of it. Be careful not to knock it off its perch – just get close enough to snap the perfect Holiday Hunt photo.

Pic 5 – Family Greeting Card: The final mission on your Holiday Hunt checklist is the most special. We encourage you to take a family photo worthy of your holiday greeting card and post it online. You’ll have plenty of background choices to choose from – you could gather in front of the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel, pose on the beach for a sunset photo, or find a backdrop that’s special to your family. Whatever you decide, you’ll look back at the photo years from now and remember all the great times you had on your Grand Strand holiday vacation.

We hope you enjoy your Myrtle Beach getaway and the adventure of participating in our Holiday Hunt as much as we enjoy hosting you at The Breakers Resort. Make sure you post all your photos to Instagram and don’t forget to include #BreakersHolidayHunt in the caption. Thanks for playing along and for enjoying your holidays with us at The Breakers Resort!
