Mix the crisp autumn air with the cool ocean breeze, blend it with live music and lively people, and wash it all down with a wide variety of vintages from around the world. What you get are good times and fine wines during your fall vacation to Myrtle Beach and The Breakers Resort.

It's that time of year when the Grand Strand pops the cork on the fall party calendar, and at the heart of the celebrations is our vintage lineup of wine festivals. Offering wines made right here in our backyard and from all over the world, the local fall wine festivals feature lots of sipping and sampling to go with great entertainment and socializing opportunities. Here's a glance at some of the wine festivals on tap this fall for Breakers guests to soak up some sun, fun and vino:

* Pawleys Island Wine & Food Gala: As the highlight of the three-week-long Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art, this popular event features some of the Lowcountry's top chefs serving their favorite dishes, which are complemented with award-winning wines. The Pawleys Island Wine & Food Gala gives patrons the chance to sample fare ranging from locally harvested seafood and produce to international cuisine, plus award-winning wines from around the world. Held at the Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, about 25 miles south of The Breakers, the event offers tasting tents, live music, raffles and the popular dessert tasting.

* Myrtle Beach Wine Festival: This seventh annual event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 1. Held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Valor Park in The Market Common, just a short cab ride from The Breakers, this all-day event allows patrons to enjoy the fall weather outdoors while choosing from a list of more than 50 wines from all over the globe. And for those who prefer a cold beer to wine, there will be more than 20 craft beer vendors on hand to serve up some suds. Several food and shopping vendors will set up in Valor Park, and the main stage will feature live music from local musicians. Admission is free, but attendees who wish to indulge must purchase a tasting glass for $5 and individual tasting tickets. Enjoy 2-ounce samples under the big tent and pace yourself for the all-day party. While you are at The Market Common, take advantage of all the great shopping, dining and nightlife.

* Autumn Big Band Blast: If you prefer to attend parties in a winery setting, the Oct. 1 Autumn Big Band Blast is one of the highlights of La Belle Amie Vineyard's biweekly festival schedule. Located in the nearby town of Little River, about 20 miles north of The Breakers, La Belle Amie is situated on a 38-acre farm that offers tours, tasting sessions and Saturday bonfire parties throughout the year. This festival features live big-band music, dancing, food, beer and, of course, a long list of wines from the Twisted Sisters line. Admission to the all-day festival is $10. If you can't make it for this one, La Belle Amie's other fall events include the Rock Back the Clock Music Fest (Oct. 15), the Halloween Saturday Bonfire (Oct. 29), the Island Fever Music Fest (Nov. 5), WineStock (Nov. 19) and the Holiday Spirits Bonfire (Nov. 26).

After a fun day and night on the fall wine festival circuit and a safe and sober ride back to The Breakers, kick back and relax with a nightcap on your private balcony overlooking the ocean and soak in the enjoyment of a fun and relaxing fall getaway to Myrtle Beach. It’s just one more reason to make a break for The Breakers Myrtle Beach Resort this fall.
