Broadway at the Beach has been Myrtle Beach's most popular entertainment, shopping, dining and nightlife complex for two decades. There have been a few changes over the years as stores and restaurants come and go, but nothing on the scale of the extreme makeover Broadway at the Beach recently announced with lots of new openings, closings and relocations.
Although many of the changes have been speculated for some time, there were a few surprises concerning Broadway's new lineup for 2016. Construction is currently underway in earnest as Broadway hopes to have all the alterations in place before the busy summer season. Here are some of the changes you can look forward to once all the dust settles at Broadway at the Beach:
American Tap House: Let the cold beer flow and the good times roll at this growing regional chain that celebrates the diversity of handcrafted domestic brews. Featuring dozens of unique ales, ciders, pilsners, stouts and more, American Tap House puts an emphasis on local and regional concoctions. They also take the same approach to the food menu, which focuses on fresh local ingredients and tasty American fare.
Dave & Buster's: Finally, this national chain of sports bar arcades, long rumored to be coming to Myrtle Beach, makes its Grand Strand debut at Broadway at the Beach. For those unfamiliar with the popular party hangout, Dave & Buster's takes the sports bar experience to the next level. Watch the big game or get into the action by playing the latest, state-of-the-art video games.
Paula Deen Restaurant: The First Lady of Country Cooking brings her not-so-secret recipes (“More butter and cheese, y'all”) to Broadway at the Beach's already hefty dining lineup. An offshoot of her popular family restaurant in Savannah, GA, this eatery delivers classic Southern cuisine with Paula Deen's personal twists. The restaurant joins her existing culinary retail store.
OZ Nightclub: Celebrity Square's nightlife lineup had grown a bit stale for the next generation of clubbers, and the new concept is designed with hip, young millennials in mind. Replacing the long-standing Revolutions dance club, which rode the retro disco wave for as long as it lasted, OZ brings Celebrity Square up to date with hard-driving, urban nightclub feel. OZ promises to be unlike any other club on the Grand Strand, so expect big crowds to flock to the dance floor when it opens its doors this spring.
Relocations: In addition to the new businesses opening at Broadway, a few longtime favorites are relocating to new digs. The recognizable, pyramid-shaped Hard Rock Cafe is moving to the opposite end of Celebrity Square into the space previously occupied by Broadway Louie's. Never fear, sports fans. Broadway Louie's is relocating across the walkway to the defunct Cowboys Saloon location, bringing another sports bar alternative to Dave & Buster's. Among the former Broadway occupants that didn’t make the final cut were MagiQuest, Planet Hollywood and Carlos ‘N Charlie’s.
Guests at the Breakers Myrtle Beach Resort don’t have to travel very far to check out all the changes at Broadway at the Beach. Located 1 mile from the resort, Broadway is a straight shot down 21st Avenue North so you can’t get lost and don’t have to deal with the more heavily traveled Kings Highway or Highway 17 Bypass. And after a full day of attractions and shopping and a nice evening of dinner and dancing, you can be back in your comfortable room relaxing and resting to do it all over again the next day.
